Here is the Official Press Release

Nike lobbyists to work with Reebok to shake up the women’s trainers market

15.08.13: Emily Hodgson and Emilie Riis, the duo currently lobbying Nike to make its coolest men’s trainers available in women’s sizes, have been invited by Reebok to collaborate on its women’s trainers.

Hodgson and Riis launched a campaign last month to shake up the predominantly pink and girly women’s trainers market under the name Purple Unicorn Planet (PUP), with a website disguised as a fantasy trainer shop at www.purpleunicornplanet.com

The pair, who work together at ad agency 18 Feet & Rising, sent a letter to Nike with their requests. Purple Unicorn Planet has its own hashtag #pleasejustdoit and Twitter feed @PunicornP

Following the vast amount of press coverage and support PUP received since launch, sportswear giant Reebok got in touch to ask the two Emilies to collaborate with its team.

Meanwhile, Nike’s response to the campaign has been met with frustration and disappointment at PUP HQ. Nike sent a representative to meet with the pair to discuss PUP and subsequently issued the following statement:

"We have been in touch with Emily and Emilie and we find their campaign very interesting. We have always been and will continue to be supportive of feedback from our consumers. NIKE is committed to our sneaker community and will continue to work on offering new and exciting products."

Despite Nike’s stated commitment to the sneaker community, the brand has given no explanation to Purple Unicorn Planet and its supporters on why the women’s range is so limited, and there is no response to PUP’s goal.
Emily Hodgson said: “It’s great to see someone step up. We’ve been delighted and amazed by the response we have received since we launched PUP. The fact that the people at Nike haven’t yet given us the answers we’re looking for is a disappointment.”

Emilie Riis said: “This is a big opportunity and failing to see it means you will be missing out. We want to collaborate with a brand that is taking the shortage in the category seriously. It’s great to see that we’ve struck a chord with so many women round the world who feel the same way we do, and we are driven by giving them a better trainer selection in smaller sizes.

Kickpassion is so proud of the Emilies on their collaboration with Reebok. Congrats! ladies Keep us posted on the journey. :)

Kicking With: Purple Unicorn Planet Of The #PleaseJustdoit Campaign For Nike Trainers!

Kicking With:  Purple Unicorn Planet Of The #PleaseJustdoit Campaign For Nike Trainers!

Creators of Purple Unicorn Planet  #pleasejustdoit campaign  Emilie & Emily Shown above

Please let our viewers know who purple unicorn planet is and what your #pleasejustdoit campaign is all about ?

Purple Unicorn Planet is a fantasy shop of all the amazing trainers that could be yours if only Nike would… The majority of cool trainers out there seem to only be available in men’s sizes. We’ve handpicked the most awesome trainers, built a fantasy shop website and created a social media campaign to change this.

What inspired you to create the campaign?
We love trainers and we love fashion. Men’s trainers, if you're lucky, start at 5.5UK. So being sizes 4 & 4.5UK respectively all we seem to be offered is pink and purple neon-tastic trainers. We like black woven toed, dark patent leather and blue lighting bolt swooshes too. We decided to do something about it and Purple Unicorn Planet was born. You can talk something to death, but this time we decided to actually do something about it. Working in advertising we had the necessary skills available to bring our idea to life and share it with other women.

Have you received any feedback so far for the cause and how long has the campaign been in existence?

The campaign was launched over 3 weeks ago. We’ve received feedback from all corners of the globe.  Besides the thousands of #pleasejustdoit tweets, women (and men!) have personally contacted us to support the cause and shared their thoughts on what should be done. Purple Unicorn Planet has grown from a side project to an worldwide online movement.  It’s great to hear the feedback and see how the campaign has grown. And we are so happy to see that we’re no alone in our search for better female trainers.

Are Nike trainers your only favourite pair of kicks?

There are several awesome trainer brands out there, but Nike seems to dominating the market when it comes to interesting trainer releases. It would be great to see other brands step up and improve the women’s range. Purple Unicorn Planet has shown that there is a demand from women all across the globe, and there is a big opportunity for someone to capitalise on this.

What do you feel are the ugliest sneakers ever created?

Arguably there has been some ‘interesting’ trainers designs. We are personally not that keen on the more garish colourways coupled with hectic designs. It’s one or the other – keep it simple with bright colourways or muted with more complex designs. Don’t get us started on the ‘high-heeled trainer’.

What's the most you've ever spent on a pair of sneakers ?

EH: I’ve spent over £100 on a Nike Liberty collaboration trainer. I love them, but they are floral and extremely feminine.  I’d like to buy some trainers in a more muted colourway/edgier design however, I cant find them in the women’s section.

ER: I think the most I’ve spent was around £200. But I didn’t buy them for myself, I bought them for my boyfriend – living out the sneakerhead dream through his big feet.

Do you remember what your first pair of sneakers were as a kid?
ER: I remember buying a pair of Puma trainers when I was about 14 years old. A boy from my school said they looked like bowling shoes and that made me really conscious about the fact that actually did. Kind of ruined it for me.

EH: Yes, K-Swiss Tongue Twisters!

How can people become more involved in your movement for the #pleasejustdoit campaign?

We made a crowdsourced gallery on our website named Trainer Park. People can Tweet, Instagram or email us the trainers they want but can’t get in their size. We will add them to the Trainer Park and they will become part of our movement. Just send us the link to your trainers/name of the shoe, your twitter handle and your shoe size. Besides Trainer Park, you can keep supporting the movement by tweeting and talking about Purple Unicorn Planet… this is the only way we can get through to Nike.

Please Just Do It Campaign by PurpleUnicornplanet.com

Purple Unicorn planet is a website/shop/ fantasy world as they put it , of all the amazing
nike trainers that could be yours if Nike made them in small enough sizes for women. The site showcases a couple of Nike trainers that don't come in women's small sizes . Their aim is to spread the word all the way to the swoosh head quarters with hopes that they will grant their wish of allowing the trainers to come in sizes 3- 5.5.

You can follow these ladies on Twitter at twitter.com/PunicornP

Be sure to use hashtag #PLEASEJUSTDOIT.

Kickin it With TiffanyBchanel custom Sneaker Artist!

What inspired you to do sneaker art?

Well, the first pair of sneakers I painted were inspired by me wanting something that did not exist. From there I just wanted to do more. The more sneakers I painted the more I realized that I loved abstract and line art.

What were the first pair of sneakers you re-designed with your art?

The first pair of sneakers I re-designed were a old pair of red and white converse. I transformed them into a vibrant gold and changed the sole color from being all white to black and white.

                                                     Gold Member Kicks pictured above.

How many sneakers have you re-designed with your art?

So far I have customized 48 pairs of sneakers.

What makes your sneaker art more unique compared to all the other sneaker artists and custom kick creators?

would not say that my artwork is more unique, because as artist we all are unique. What seperates us art wise is our personality and talent. My work to me is simple yet original. The majority of my customers pay me to be creative and they trust that they will love it. My sneakers have my personality written all over it, thats why I say "My art walks!"

What is your favorite sneaker brand?

I don't have a favorite sneaker brand. As of right now my favorite sneakers are nike sky highs.

What is the price range for a pair of custom kicks from tiffanybchanel?

My converse custom kicks range from $130 - $170. The price includes the sneakers, paint job, and shipping and handling.

Whats the most you've ever spent on a pair of kicks?

I would say about $500, on a pair of olive and gold patent leather and snake skin Lanvin sneakers.

Have you ever had any challenges with re-designing a pair of kicks?

My biggest challenge is designing sneakers for people who I do not know, never seen, and they tell me "I want these colors, I trust your creativity!" Don't get me wrong I love the challenge. The hardest part is when you don't know someones personality. So you try to design something that is hot but not overwhelming. At the end of it all you pray they love it!

How can people find out more about your custom kicks and where to purchase?

For custom orders people can write me via email tiffanybchanel@gmail.com

They can follow me on instagram @tiffanybchanel and actually see all of the orders I paint.
